Women's rolls before WW1

Women during WW1 had very little rights. Most continued to stay home and do the cooking and cleaning, but with the men gone, some started to take over their jobs.

Women during the depression

Women during the depression were forced, because of the economic crises, to leave their homes and get a job to help their families. This gave them an oppertunity to earn a place in society.

Women During WW2

Women during the second world war were needed while the men were away to fight. This started a movement for women to be strong. They took the jobs that used to be open for men only. Over 6million women were employed in heavy manufacturing
during this war.

Georgia Buckingham's story: Working women in World War 2

Georgia Buckingham was a young woman during the war. She was happily married to a young man who was drafted into the Navy in 1943. His name was Robert Buckingham. He worked in a factory making war materials at the time he was drafted. They were married soon after the depression and had very little money. When Robert left for war, Georgia took over at his job.
